Various Styles for Women’s Thick Hair

If you are often frustrated by your thick, unmanageable hair, keep your chin up – there are some hairstyles that will look wonderful on thick hair. Thickness merely refers to the volume of your hair. Of course, women who have thin hair always envy those with thick hair, so it’s a matter of working with what you have.

Thick hair can often mean that tangles are easily formed, so it can be hard to comb your hair. In addition, if you let thick hair grow out, it may become frizzy. If you want styles that really work for thick hair, get an appropriate cut, first. A layered cut works well for thick hair, since it gives your hair different levels of depth and helps to make it more manageable. Be sure that your hairstylist doesn’t cut your hair too short though, or it may stick up.

Thick hair of varying lengths needs various styles to make it work. You may wish to avoid short hairstyles for thicker hair, since it may cause the hair to flare up. If your style is medium or long, the weight will help to hold it down, and it will look less curly or wiry. If you leave some length, it gives you the option of pulling your hair into a bun or a ponytail when you’re having a bad hair day.

Bangs do not work well with thick hair, since they may become curly and will need to be straightened frequently. Wavy hair works well for medium hairstyles with thick hair. This style will help add bounce to your hair, and you can curl the ends up for a different look.

A perm may help your thick hair look better when it is styled. You can get a soft or heavy perm, depending on how long and thick your hair is.

Long Hair Tips and Styles

There are many long hairstyles you can wear to show off your longer hair. Braids are especially a nice style to wear if you have long hair. You can practice braiding on a string mop, or purchase hair pieces to practice on. In addition, your family members may allow you to braid their hair for the practice. You’ll want to concentrate on the basic braiding patterns for long hair styles, including French, English and Dutch braids.

You can use professional hairstyling products to help enhance your natural curls and waves. Apply mousse and wrap your hair into a hair twist or a knot when you go to bed. Allow your hair to air dry overnight, then undo the twist when you get up the next morning and you’ll have lush curls and waves.

Don’t use hair care products that have high alcohol content, since they may dry your hair out. In addition, a balanced diet using each of the food groups will actually help balance the moisture in your hair.

High winds can whip your long hair into tangles and even split ends. If you are in an open car or standing in an open, windy area, pull your long hair up and secure it. The sun also is damaging to hair because it can dry it out and burn your scalp. Protect your long hairstyle with a mild sunscreen applied to the scalp if you’re outside all day. Better yet, wear a hat to block out the damaging rays of the sun.

If you’re still looking for a good hairdresser you can trim the ends of your own hair to avoid split ends. Frequent trims are better for your hair than infrequent trims. If you can’t trim your hair well, ask a friend or family member to help. Only trim the ends of your hair when you have plenty of time, not when you are in a hurry. In addition, you may opt to only trim the split ends, although they may be hard to sort out.

Show Off Your Hair with Long Hairstyles

The best way to keep your long hair healthy and easy to style is to treat it well. Long hairstyles will look best if you tailor your maintenance to the type of hair you have. Your hairstylist will be able to point you to products to keep your hair healthy.

If you have had long hair for years, you already know how important it is to keep your hair properly shampooed and conditioned. There are popular tips that you may only discover after years of talking to hairdressers who work a great deal with long hairstyles.

One of the main problems with long hairstyles is breakage, and shorter hairs that may be fly-away, frizzy or have split ends. It is important to have your long hair trimmed on a regular basis, to keep from showing split ends.

You’ll need to be seriously committed to promoting healthy long hair. Long hairstyles require you to concentrate on the health of your hair, and your ability to nurture it. Keep any damaged ends trimmed because you can’t grow healthy hair if a lot of your hair has damaged, ripped or split ends.

Select the hair care products that work the best for your long hair. Some of the more specialized products may be beyond your means, but get the best you can. Learn to use the products and the tools of healthy hair, and adopt correct ways to detangle, brush and comb your long hair. Don’t use cheaper combs and brushes that can tear strands of hair. Wide tooth combs and brushes without knobs on the bottom of the brush are the best type to use on long hair.

If you decide to trim off your split ends between hair salon visits, use professional hair cutting scissors to keep from ripping the ends of your hair. Also, make sure your fingernails are trimmed if you use your fingers to finger rake your hair. These tips will help you care for your long hairstyle and keep your hair healthy at the same time.

Medium Hairstyles that Show Off your Style

A medium hairstyle is quite handy for women who are busy but still want to look stylish. It’s not as easily manageable as a short hairstyle, of course, but it usually doesn’t require much more than using a quality shampoo and a good conditioner, to maintain the health of your hair. If you want a sportier hair style, medium hairstyles may be a bit of a hassle. If your hair is too short, it can’t be tied back.

If your hair is in a medium haircut style, be sure to have your ends trimmed regularly because you don’t want split ends to ruin a good hairstyle. It would be handy to have a product that could repair split ends, but so far, no product does this effectively.

There are various names used for the medium hairstyles that women like to wear. They include mid-length, in-between length and shoulder length hair styles. One stylist may use one term and another might use a different term. So be sure your stylist knows what you really want.

Medium hairstyles allow you to be versatile since they are easy to manage and generally look good for people with various facial shapes and hair textures. These haircuts will also allow you to emphasize your features. When you use a layered cut on your medium length hair, it can help emphasize your features that you’d like to highlight.

Medium haircuts also offer you a selection of different hairstyles, so, you can try out various styles until you find one that you like. If you have a formal event coming up, you might want an elegant updo, but if you need something that’s casual or edgy, all you have to do is have your hairdresser change a few areas and you’re good to go.

Medium hairstyles also give you a sense of security as well. If you don’t like a cut you end up with, you can simply have your hairdresser change it to a look more to your liking. In this way, you’re not stuck with a bad haircut, which is what sometimes happens with short hairstyles.

Summer Hair Care

Spending time in the great outdoors is one of the many perks of summer, but it can really do a number on your hair.  Increased time outside means increased exposure to sun and wind, not to mention chlorine and salt water.    Here are some tips to get the most out of summer, without ruining your tresses.

Whenever possible, wear a hat. This seems like common sense, but it’s a tip that many people forget about.  Wearing a hat shields your hair from the drying wind, and it also protects your hair from damaging UV rays (your skin isn’t the only thing UV rays are bad for).  It’s so easy to find a cute hat these days—there are even waterproof hats, made especially for wearing while lounging on the pool deck.

Use hair products that contain UV protection. There are all sorts of products that now sport UV protection for hair.  If you can’t wear a hat, at least use a mousse, conditioner or hairspray that contains UV protection.  These products are more expensive, but when you consider the cost and effort involved in trying to fix damaged hair, they are well worth the investment.

Hair that is exposed to the sun, wind, and salt or chlorine-filled water all day dries out easily.  Dryness equals breakage and/or frizz, neither of which we want.  To combat this, be sure that you wash your hair as soon as possible after being in the pool or at the beach so that the chlorine and salt have as little time to do their damage as possible.  But during the week, when you’re not in the pool or at the beach, try spreading your shampooing out to every-other-day.  This will help your hair retain much-needed moisture.  (If you’re planning a trip to the beach for Saturday, try washing your hair Thursday night, skip the shampoo on Friday, then shampoo and condition Saturday night.)

After your shampoo, try using a leave-in conditioner.  These can really help retain the moisture in your hair, which is very important for protecting your hair from breakage.

Taking care of your hair means you can enjoy the sun and look great all summer long!

Great Styles for Short Hair

There are many great looks you can achieve with short hair. Check for pictures online or in magazines before you go to have your hair styled, so that your hairdresser will have a good idea of what kind of short hairstyle you want. Some hairstylists like to keep your hair a bit longer, so you have to visit them more often, but be firm if you want a very short hairstyle. You and your hairdresser should agree that the style you have selected will show off the shape of your face nicely.

Hairstylists and students have taken the time to classify many short hairstyles, whether you find the photos online or in fashion or celebrity magazines. When you have your hair styled, if it is of medium length, you can have it cut a bit longer than the look you’re after, and check it to make sure you will be comfortable with the amount of hair you are having cut off.

Some haircuts are right on the border between short and medium hairstyles, so some stylists may place them in other categories. A medium hairstyle is sometimes harder to identify and define than a short hairstyle.

Some types of short hairstyles include buzzed, which some women wear, but it is more commonly seen as a men’s hairstyle. This is classified as a very short hairstyle that tends to look a bit like the styles cut for the military (but you may want yours left a bit longer than that).

Cropped short hairstyles are a bit longer than the buzzed look, and your entire scalp will be covered with more hair than you will see on a buzz cut. The length of your hair in a cropped style may range from two to four inches, to a point where your hair barely touches your earlobes.

The styles with short hair, but longer than crop cuts are the kind generally referred to as short hairstyles. They may include layers or short bobs, and the length may extend to about the middle of your ear.

Some people also include a few medium hairstyles into short hairstyle classifications. These styles will extend from your nose to just a bit under your chin. Short and medium hairstyles generally will not touch the shoulder, since that would be more properly classified as long hair.

Top Hairstyling Products for Women

The hairstyling products you use are dependent on the type of hair you have and the style you wear it. Here are some various types of hairstyling products that many women find helpful.

Hair mousse is added to your hair to give it extra shine and volume. You can purchase mousse as a cream or a spray, and it won’t build up or create any clumps if you use it properly. Mousse should be applied when your hair is still wet, not after it dries. Apply it to the whole head and then comb through your hair, so that the mousse is evened out.

Another popular hairstyling product is hair gel. This is used to help stiffen your hair into the specific hairstyle you wish to wear. The hold it gives you is somewhat similar to hair spray, but not as strong as hair wax or hair glue. Be careful not to overuse hair gel, since this is not healthy for your hair when applied too liberally.

Hair wax is a thicker product that holds your hair in any style of your choosing. This product has been used for a long time and it remains relatively pliable when applied. Hair waxes may be released in different forms, including styling paste, whip, glue, putty and pomade.

Hairspray is a product that most every woman has used at some point in her life. This product helps your hair remain stiff, or held within your desired style. It is not as strong as hair wax or gel, and it is applied evenly over your entire hair area. If you don’t brush it out a bit, it may leave your hair style in a condition some people call “crunchy”, since that’s how it feels.

A hair volumnizer is used to give your hair added shine, body and volume. This product is best for flat or thin hair. It works by first attracting moisture from the air, and then using that to help each hair swell, making it look thicker. The polymers in a volumnizer hair product will also coat your hair and make it look shiny and thicker.

Hairstyle Products that Every Woman Needs

There are so many hairstyling products on the market now that you probably stand in the hair care aisle looking everywhere for something you need. Some products are more essential than others, but here are some you are probably familiar with.

Curling irons or rollers will help your straight hair show off some curl, or at least some wave. If you have longer hair, though, you’ll want to use larger rollers. A good curling iron is also worth its price, which for those with straight hair can definitely attest to.

A straightening iron on the other hand will help tame your curly hair into a style you prefer. Select one that was specifically made for your hair type and texture.

Hair sprays are traditionally used to keep your hair where you want it. They can also help to protect your hair from UV rays, heat and humidity. If you don’t want your hairstyle to look too stiff but you still need the help that hair spray gives you, select a hair spray with a soft hold. If you want more body, you can lift up sections of your hair and spray them close to the roots.

Since you probably use a brush quite often, it makes sense to spend a little extra money to get a really good brush. You’ll want one that has flexible bristles, so that it won’t cause much damage to your hair when you use it.

If you need more volume for your hairstyle, you might want to select hairstyle products like a volumnizing mousse. This product works wonders for people who have fine or limp hair. If your hair is coarse, on the other hand, select a balm instead. This will help to relax those frizzies that you probably see every now and again.

One newer hairstyle product for women is shine serums. These balms give your hair a healthier look and usually work pretty well. If your hair is straight or fine, use a spray instead, and be sure to only use as much as you need because shine products tend to weigh hair down. The serums especially work well on thick hair to help it look smoother and give it that healthy shine.

Your choice of shampoo is determined to a great extent by what type of hair you have. There are so many shampoos on the market now that it would be nearly impossible to list them all. This is why it is important to be sure that you get one specifically formulated for your hair type. Don’t be afraid to spend a little more and get a quality salon-type shampoo. After all, your hair is usually the first thing people will notice about you.
