It’s a known fact that cooking is an art, and variations in cooking styles are a part of the cultural specificities that define regions and countries (there are, for example, Chinese restaurants, Indian restaurants and so on). In fact, there are two important perspectives to be analyzed when it comes to cooking:

• Cooking as an activity performed by experts, by true artists that use their imagination and creativity in order to create special dishes and exotic combinations.

• Cooking as a basic activity that everyone engages in. It is mostly a ‘family thing’: preparing meals for you and your family on a daily basis takes time and patience and if you don’t enjoy it everything might seem very hard and exhausting. But if you make sure that you have all the necessary tools and kitchen accessories, things will seem easier.

Given these two ways in which we can talk about cooking, let’s stay focused on the kitchen accessories that you must have in order to enjoy preparing all kinds of dishes for you and for your loved ones. This cookware analysis will explore every aspect of cooking, in other words, everything you need to do in order to come up with the best meals every time.

1. Knives

Having good knives is a crucial thing that you have to keep in mind regarding cookware. It’s necessary to be able to slice vegetables and to chop off meat just the way you are supposed to. Low quality knives make this more difficult and it can be extremely annoying to try to cut tomatoes or onions with knives whose blade is not as sharp as it should be.

There are a lot of extremely cheap knives or knife sets, but a sincere piece of advice would be to try to avoid them, because even if you save money at first by paying less for them, they usually last for only a few weeks. A more qualitative set of knives is designed to last for at least a few years, so it’s best to put things in perspective and to buy something that seems more expensive, but that will allow you to save money over a longer period of time.

2. Pan

Let’s say you want to prepare a sauce, or maybe to fry some fish fillet. Imagine an ordinary pan: it might ruin the entire dinner for you, by burning the fish or making the sauce taste funny (due to the fact that it gets stuck on the pan’s surface because of the heat). Now, if you make sure that the pan’s ok, things will go smooth and everything will turn out just like planned. It would be ideal to have a pan set that contains a few different pans from smaller ones (to be used for preparing pancakes, for example) to large size pans (for preparing pasta sauce, for example).

3. Pot

The object that you’ll surely get to use many times in your kitchen is the pot. It is suited for preparing all kinds of soups or simply for boiling water (if you think of preparing pasta, for starters). It is very important to get yourself pots that have perfectly fitting tops, especially if you plan to use them for more sophisticated recipes than boiling water for pasta.

4. Bowls

The bowls, as well as the knives and the cutting board, are to be seen as belonging to the ‘pre-cooking accessories’ category. It is crucial to have the right bowls (the right sizes) in order to be able to store your sliced ingredients or to mix them without having to worry about spilling the contents of the bowl.

5. Cutting board

Even though it might sound a bit weird, the cutting board is a very important piece of cookware that you must have in your kitchen. It is a simple instrument, but it is very helpful when it comes to protecting the knives and making them last longer (it is wrong to use the knives directly on plates. When cutting and slicing different ingredients, you have to make sure that you use a perfectly flat surface; this is why the cutting board is the best option).

As you’ve noticed from the categories mentioned above, cooking doesn’t begin when you put the pan on the stove. It all starts by choosing a certain recipe; then, you start searching for the right ingredients and only after you make sure that you have everything you need to start to chop and cut them into small pieces, following the recipe’s instructions. Only after you’re done with these stages, you put different ingredients into the pan or pot and you set them on the stove. This is precisely why we should all think about cooking as an extended process, and if we manage to stick to this vision we’ll see why cookware doesn’t only refer to pans and pots, but to everything that we have to use, starting with cutting the ingredients.

When talking about this ‘kitchen stuff’, we have to mention the way the kitchen looks. If things are messy, it will be very hard to enjoy cooking. If you keep things in order (if you wash the bowls, the knives and other cooking accessories immediately after you use them, you’ll avoid having the kitchen sink filled with dirty dishes), you’ll avoid spending time on finding the things that you need and you’ll stay more focused on the cooking than on any other external element.

Remember that having a clean kitchen is very important; also, having good quality knives, at least one cutting board and a few different sized bowls are the prerequisites of a great meal.

You probably try to eat healthy. If you prepare a lot of meals for yourself and your family, you undoubtedly try to choose healthy ingredients to keep everyone looking and feeling great. Did you know that there was more to healthy cooking than simply choosing great ingredients and avoiding deep fried foods on a regular basis? You need to take a look at your cookware and give it an assessment to see if it is making your meals more or less healthy.

Many people just don’t realize how important the cookware they use is to the health of the food they prepare. A large portion of the cookware market is made from aluminum. While there haven’t been any definitive studies, many experts say that using aluminum cookware can lead to health issues. Nearly all nutrition experts agree that cooking with stainless steel, enamel, or cast iron are healthier alternatives.

Two Birds – One Stone

If you want to make sure that you are cooking with the healthiest choices in cookware, you can also give your kitchen a mini-makeover in the process. New pots and pans in the kitchen can liven up your kitchen décor and give the room a whole new feel. There are a lot of very attractive, retro styled cast iron cookery sets that you can get that can give a modern kitchen design an old-world charm that just isn’t possible with many of the modern pieces of cookware.

Keep your cooking as healthy as it can be. Even if you don’t choose a completely new set of cookware, it’s a great idea to replace your older and more worn pieces. If you have aluminum pots and pans that are getting a little bit old, you may want to consider some of the safer and more attractive enameled, or cast-iron pieces that are available. You can pick up these pieces of cookware in a variety of styles from quite a few companies. You’ll be making a healthier choice and adding some fresh new details to your kitchen in the process.

Looking for a way to add a little personality and style to your kitchen? If you’re tired of cooking with the same, dreary old cookware, consider doing a pots and pans makeover. A lot of people stick with the same old kitchen essentials until they wear out. You wouldn’t drive the same car for 10 years, so why stick with the frying pans and broilers you’ve had since your first apartment. There are some dazzling new choices in cookware that are stylish and functional.

Copper Collections

One of the hottest looks that goes with virtually any kitchen décor is copper cookware. These collections are stunningly modern with a touch of old world charm. If you’re looking for a way to make your kitchen sparkle and shine, copper cookware is a fantastic choice. For those with islands in their kitchen copper cookware can be the perfect way to shine the light on your kitchen centerpiece and give it the recognition it deserves.

Essential Pieces

Copper cookware can get pricey, so you may want to ease into your collection a little bit at a time. You definitely want to start with the essentials. As you’re starting your collection be sure to get the following pieces of copper cookware:

A large frying pan – approximately 10 – 12 inches across

A medium frying pan – approximately 8.75 inches across

A large sauce pan – approximately 7.25 inches across

If you have these three pieces and the lids to cover them, you will be on your way to starting a beautiful and very functional cookware collection. Be sure to keep your copper cookware well polished when not in use so they can serve as the stylish decorative pieces they were meant to be. You should continue to pick up a piece or two from time to time and before you know it, you will have a kitchen cookware collection that your friends will envy and you will enjoy.

Copper cookware helps bring a timeless look to your kitchen. You’ll love how they bring out the little details in every kind of kitchen décor.

One of those well known factoids that is passed around says that we spend more time in our kitchens than in any room of the house. Whether or not this has been scientifically validated or not, remains to be seen. Whether or not the kitchen is the most frequented room or not, chances are that it does see a lot of action on a typical day.

Since the odds are that you will spend a lot of time in your kitchen over the years, it helps to have some quick and easy ideas to change the room and give it a little variety. Here are a few tips that can be done quickly, without spending a lot of money.

Add a New Sink and Faucet. While this can be expensive, it doesn’t have to be. There are so many new designs available that you can pick a new sink and build an entire kitchen theme around it. There are old style, rustic-looking sinks that can give your kitchen a retro appeal. There are also a lot of ultra-modern sinks that can make your kitchen into the kitchen of the future. Take a look around and do some bargain shopping; a new sink can go a long way in adding some life to your kitchen.

Sponge paint to add some style. If you have painted walls in your kitchen, grab a sea sponge from the local store and a small can of paint and add some accents to your walls that really change up the look. Find colours that are complementary, unless you really want to go for a livelier approach. Granted you won’t want to take this project lightly, it can be done in less than a day and doesn’t require a huge investment.

New rugs, curtains and towels. Spend a day shopping for a new colour scheme for rugs, curtains and towels. Changing up these small details can give your kitchen a whole new dynamic. Some people like to buy a set of each of these things for every season. When summer rolls around why not go for the orange and yellow to bring out the brightness of your kitchen? The colours and styles are up to you, but by switching every two or three months, you are guaranteed to keep things interesting.

These are just three quick tips for giving your kitchen a quick, painless face lift. Look around at the small details of your kitchen to see what small steps you can take to change things up and add some spice to the kitchen.

Like it or not, your kitchen is a reflection of who you are. No other room works as hard as the kitchen. From preparing food, eating meals, and gathering with your family and friends, the kitchen is the one room in your house where form and functionality come together. You want your kitchen design to reflect your personality, to be comfortable, and welcoming. You also want your kitchen to be organized and easy to work in. Here are some tips on how to strike this important balance in your kitchen.

Set the Mood With Details

Your kitchen doesn’t have to be decked out with the most expensive furniture and appliances. In fact, it’s the little details that make a kitchen memorable and stylish. Add some new curtains for spring to shed a whole new light on your kitchen. Few things make as much of an impact as new curtains. Once you’ve added some new colours with the curtains, follow suit and accentuate the curtains with a new tablecloth, throw rugs, and linens that match. Hanging a few kitchen towels in the right spots can really make your kitchen design come together. Just a few small things can make an impression that you will be amazed with.

Get Organized for Efficiency

While you want a cozy kitchen, you need to keep efficiency in mind too. Find the areas of clutter that exist in your kitchen and empty them out. It’s easy to come up with organizational methods that keep your kitchen clutter free. Hit the yard sales and find some old flour bins. These bins make perfect holders for all of your large kitchen utensils. Instead of keeping everything in a drawer, bringing them out into the open in a nice bin brings a sense of charm and style to any kitchen. Don’t worry if you can’t find the right colours either. A little ceramic paint in the right shade can turn any piece into the right piece for your kitchen.

Keep your kitchen humming at peak efficiency without ruining the coziness of this all important room. Adding a few details like curtains and throw rugs can revitalize your kitchen. Adding some containers for organization and a shot of country comfort will put the toppings on your recipe for kitchen fashion.
