Are you bored with regular travel, sightseeing, taking pictures and trying out local cutoms? Maybe what you need is an adrenalin-pumping extreme travel option that challenges every pore in your body. Here we cover a few extreme travel destinations for you; you’ll have to deploy every ounce of your wit, survival instinct and thinking power to make it.

1. Most Dangerous Driving Destination: Bolivia

If you want to stay alive in Bolivia, stay off the roads. If you are an extreme driver who’s always looking for an adrenaline high behind the wheel, then you must take a drive from the Bolivian capital of La Paz to Coroico town. The 38 mile stretch between the two towns is called ‘The Road of Death’ and with good reason. This dangerous stretch has held the dubious title of the most dangerous road in the world since 1995. This 3.5 meters wide road gets extremely slick when it rains, making it ten times as dangerous.

2. Most humid destination: Ellsemere Island, Canada

One would expect a place in Canada to figure in perhaps the coldest or perhaps the driest corner but most humid? Well, we share your disbelief; it’s not the Amazon but Ellsemere Island in the Arctic Ocean that gets the honour of being the most humid spot on earth. Hardly anyone lives there; so what do you do? You go to the Canadian Forces Station Alert, a permanent base for Canadian Forces on the northernmost part of Ellsemere Island.

3. Snowiest Destination: Mount Rainier, Washington

One might think that some place on the North Pole might be receiving the most snow but one would be wrong. It’s the Mount Rainier in Washington State, submerged in 52 feet of snow every year. It’s understandable therefore that the 14,410 foot peak is a winter sports wonderland. People flock here during winter to ski, snowboard, snowshoe and toboggan. Still, Mount Rainier is not subject to wild snowstorms as one would expect given the level of snow that falls here, making this one of America’s most beloved winter holiday spots.

4. Most Dangerous Forest Destination: The Amazon

The Amazon forest and river are home to some of the most aggressive wildlife and treacherously carnivorous plant life ever seen. The Amazon range comprises one of the largest mountains in the world. Add to that one of the longest rivers known in human history and the possibility for danger is limitless. The 4,000 miles long Amazon River is filled with deadly snakes, river predators such as huge alligators, hippopotamuses and the famous anaconda that can swallow a person alive. A third of the world’s wildlife species lives in the Amazon rainforest.

5. Extreme Temperature Swing Destination: Browning, Montana

How would you like to visit a place where the temperatures swing and dip at least 50 to 100 degrees each which way without warning? A weatherman would be obsolete here. If you’ve heard of bipolar disorder in people, Browning in Montana suffers from bipolar weather disorder. It can be blazing hot one day and freezing cold the other day, with people huddling by fires one day and cooling off using air conditioners the next. Between January 23rd and 24th of 1916, the temperatures went from 44° F to -56° F in 24 hours; a fact that has since been confirmed by NASA.

6. Either Extreme Day or Night Destination: Ny Alesund, Norway

Norway does it for those of us who find just 12 hours of sunshine not enough in a day. Here, one can be trapped between two extremes; it’s either perpetually sunny for several months at a time, or it’s dark all the time. Norway experiences polar day and polar night – and the people of Norway have adapted beautifully to this polarity! Schools, businesses, homes and social lives are all in full operation notwithstanding the presence or absence of light. Of course, in the months of perpetual darkness, most of the social life is conducted indoors.

7. Wettest Destination: Lloró, Colombia

Imagine having to slip and slide wherever you walk, because the rain doesn’t run off from the flat forest lands? Then imagine vacationing in an area that gets 40 feet of rain every year. How’s that for a wet travel destination? If a wet, perennially dangerously slippery terrain challenges the balancing act within you, then head to Lloró, Colombia. Here everything’s wet for the most part of the year.

8. Driest Destination: Arica, Chile

If Lloró, Colombia and Chirapunji, India are wet as cooked Chinese noodles, Arica, Chile hardly ever sees rain. This area sees about 0.03 inches of rain a year. Arica is a South American port city, situated at the edge of Peru, at the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Its location next to the Pacific Ocean makes no impact on its ability to receive even though coastal cities are supposed to be really wet. Do anything but it won’t rain here.

Traveling in style means investing a little more in the items you take with you. If you invest well, these items will not only help you make an impression on the people you meet, they’ll serve you well, making your travel that much easier.

Carry It

For a traveling man, the first place to look in buying stylish accessories is luggage. Of course, you should not sacrifice a suitcase’s portability or carrying capacity just to look good, but very little beats a good leather case both in durability and style.

With the Zuca Pro luxury luggage, style and versatility go hand in hand. This carry-on case has metal reinforcements, allowing the luggage to act as an impromptu seat. Inside, stacked drawers can act as smaller suitcases, helping you organize your clothes and toiletries for travel. And of course the Zuca Pro comes with a retractable handle and wheels for easy travel through the world’s airports.

Tag It

Travelers who spend any time frustrated at the baggage claim area know the disadvantage of owning a popular brand of luggage. You can avoid that by buying luggage with distinctive fabric designs, but if you’ve found a favourite piece of luggage and it’s black, you can make it distinctive by the use of unique luggage tags.

The Bag Tag Studio makes durable plastic tags that are thicker than your ATM card. These are printed with distinctive designs, like a sepia image of the Eiffel Tower, so you can spot your bag from a distance; they’re also personalized with your name and contact information, in case your luggage is lost and the airline has to return it to you.

Charge It

Trekking across country, far from a power outlet, how can you keep your cell phone or laptop powered? Why not harness the power of the sun? Votaic Systems offers solar chargers that can be strapped to any backpack or carry on, as well as special backpacks or bags with solar chargers built in. One hour in the sun can give you four hours of talk time on the phone, and you can recharge your laptop as you hike.

Data Store It

A good Swiss Army knife is an invaluable accessory. Victorinox has updated the Swiss Army knife for the 21st century, putting a USB flash drive next to the scissors and nail file attachments. Available in 8, 16 and 32 gigabytes, the flash drive can be removed from the knife before you board a plane, so you can access the data while the rest of the knife is checked with your luggage.

Clean It

Heading off the beaten path? If you want to avoid a travel bug, consider investing in the SteriPen. This battery-powered handheld device looks like a pen and can kill bacteria and pathogens in a glass of water with just a 45 second blast of ultraviolet light, because Montezuma’s Revenge is just not stylish at all.

Dry It

Finally, quick drying underwear may not be a stylish accessories that anybody else will see (unless you want them to), but there are no articles of clothing you’ll appreciate more than this, especially when you’re waiting for a clean pair that you’ve had to hand wash. REI’s ExOfficio’s boxer briefs promise to dry overnight, which is a godsend in places where you have no access to a dryer.

Looking for your next vacation destination? Then it’s time to let your eyes wander south of the border. This doesn’t mean Michigan, Seattle, or New York! Let your eyes wander way down the map until you come to South America. By choosing to explore the far south over the near south, you will find a number of rewarding adventures waiting for you in Argentina, Ecuador, and Brazil.

In Argentina, you have the opportunity to experience tango – real tango – in the barrios of Buenos Aires. This surprisingly European capital city has fine dining, upscale shopping, and a collection of museums that span the centuries. You will also find that the favourable exchange rate with the Canadian Loonie lets you live it up without breaking the bank!

Crossing over to Ecuador, you are presented with a wonderful choice of beach or mountains. The mountains of Ecuador offer stunning volcanic trails and hiking opportunities free of snow thanks to the country’s position on the equator. If you choose the beach route, you have the Ruta del Sol with its world class surf breaks and the Galapagos Islands to explore.

Brazil also offers you multiple entertainment options. Rio de Janeiro is internationally renowned, but locals in the know are flocking to Fortaleza’s beaches in the north of the country. The rainforest offers eco-tourism as well as hidden sculptural installations and tribal villages. You can choose how rustic or how luxuriously you want to go with your trip, as most Brazilian tours are fully customizable.

Thus, why go looking for your next southern vacation destination in the United States? Let your eyes drift much further south in order to open up a world of destinations. Direct flights can be found from Vancouver or Toronto, with connecting service available from Canada’s other major cities to all points way south of the border.

When guys travel, we travel hard! We work hard and save up lots of money to have a memorable vacation. We don’t like to visit quaint spots with lots of artifacts, shops and library books from the 1950s. We want action, adventure and intrigue, James Bond style. If you throw in a beach full of half-naked ladies, then that makes it a real vacation! Here are four of the best vacation spots for men.

1. The Dominican Republic

It’s not too far away from home and is set upon many gorgeous islands. This beach paradise offers private beaches, exotic women and gourmet cooking. The Viking’s Exotic Resort is one of the most popular resort locations.

2. South Beach, Miami, Florida

Who can blame you for not wanting to fly too far away from the country? You’re scared right? Sure, of the $3,000 plane ticket! Why not chill out in Miami Beach, Florida? You can live as a beach bum, play some volleyball games and hit all of the swanky restaurants and nightclubs. You might even spot a few celebrities hanging out. For the coolest and quirkiest scene, hit the restaurant B.E.D. Yes, you get dinner served in a bed.

3. Iceland in the Summer

For a trippy vacation, visit Iceland. True, you are deprived of beaches. In exchange though, you get double the foreign nightclubs. You must experience an overseas nightclub to truly appreciate the difference. Icelandic people welcome you to outdoor thermal pools, beautiful Scandinavian girls, and a northern summer where (literally) the sun never sets.

4. Jamaica

The Beach Boys knew how to party. Their vivid song “Kokomo” eluded to the joys of Jamaica, but you won’t appreciate it until you see it for yourself, maan! In Jamaica, you can take in sunsets, play on the beach, go jet skiing, swim with dolphins or go snorkelling. If you have “good vibrations” on your mind then check out Hedonism II in Negril. This 23-acre adult resort offers lots of drinks, a very loose atmosphere and lots of reggae parties.
