Men have always been taught to be conservative when it comes to adding accessories to their outfits. The rule of thumb was to embrace simplicity and avoid drawing undue attention to yourself. Well, that kind of thinking is now outdated. Men can get bold without any fear when it comes to their personal style. If you’ve been thinking of a way to reinvent your look without getting a whole new wardrobe, it’s time to learn the fine art of accessorizing. The motto of the day is go big or go home.

Oversized Jewellery

You don’t have to opt for tiny pieces of jewellery that no one will ever notice. Today’s styles dictate that men can have larger, more elaborate pieces of jewellery without being considered over the top. Think about the difference a nice, chunky sterling silver bracelet can make when you’re wearing a darker coloured outfit. Or, try adding a little sparkle to your lighter summertime colours with a diamond encrusted pendant on a gold chain. Don’t be afraid to go big and use costume jewellery. After all most of us have to get our bling on a budget.

A Blast from the Past – Retro Sunglasses

With summer creeping up on us, you need to think about getting the right shades. A look that is really making a comeback this year is the retro, oversized sunglasses for men. You don’t have to stick to simply dark colours when you pick up a few pairs of retro eye-wear, instead, you can add as much colour as you want. The right pair of sunglasses perched on your head or over your peepers can make your next night on the town a night to remember. Yes, you can (and should) wear your sunglasses at night.

So go big this year when it comes to jewellery and other accessories. Mix, match, and try out new things. You aren’t living in a world where you have to be afraid to take chances with your style. Be brave and strike out on a new path and get the right accessories to liven up even the most boring clothes.

So, you got yourself a good haircut, a nice suit, and some kicking new sneakers. Still…it feels like something is missing. It is time to accessorize! A pair of sunglasses and a watch should finish up your look nicely.

Starting with sunglasses, some of the most popular brands are Ray-ban, Oakley, Armani, and Dolce and Gabbana, to name a few. Another big company this year is Retro Super Future. One of the most happening trends right now is extremely square frames, and Retro Super Future doesn’t disappoint with its 1970’s Italian style black frames. These frames somehow combine the past and the present in perfect measure. Italian style is a happening trend in 2010 with no sign of slowing. The brand Persol has been making and designing all their sunglasses in Italy ever since the year 1930. They are a hot brand to keep your eye on.

Picture a very foxy lady sauntering over to you and asking what time it is. You don’t want to be stuck with the lame answer of “time to get a watch.” Watches have been status symbols for men for many years. Currently some of the top affordable designers are Fossil, Diesel, and Kenneth Cole. Back in the game are companies like Swiss Army and Swatch. The Swatch G-Ring watch might be the very last watch you need as its slick style goes with any outfit you can imagine. However, since a watch is such a powerful accessory for a man, it is often wise to have several styles and colours on hand to match to your outfits accordingly.

There are so many great sunglasses and watch styles available this year that you are sure to find a pair that complements your personal style. Now you are looking all decked out—a true man of the year 2010.

Choosing your shades—what’s the big deal? Well, it’s the difference between looking like Matt Damon from Oceans 11 or Erik Estrada from C.H.I.P.S. The sunglasses you choose become an extension of you. Shades can put a certain mystery into your face. Just as quickly as you notice a buxom babe on the beach from her swimsuit, so will your sunglasses attract the attention of female gawkers. A man’s most attractive feature is usually his face and his soulful eyes. By offering a glimpse of your friendly dimples, but hiding the eyes, you stir up curiosity. Once you take those shades off and reveal those baby blues, the girl is all yours. At least that’s what Jack Nicholson taught us.

How do you go about choosing sunglasses? An eyeglasses professional will first try to determine the general shape of your face. Don’t lie and say you’re a perfect circle even if you’re not. There is no sexy or unsexy facial shape. Some attractive men have oval shaped heads, while others have oblong shapes, diamond shapes, heart shapes, round shapes and even triangle shapes. Certain styles of glasses will compliment certain types of facial shapes.

For example, oval and round sunglasses fit square heads. Oval shapes go well with anything, while triangle faces work best with semi-rimless frames that accentuate the upper part of the face. After you choose the basic shape (a glasses specialist can give you detailed face matches) then focus on the extra features you want or need. UV protection is the most important feature. If you tend to drop your glasses frequently then go with a polycarbonate plastic instead of glass. You can also add automatic tinting to your shades, or a permanent tint color. Other features include scratch resistant coating, polarized lenses and mirrored lenses.

Make sure that your sunglasses fit your personal style. You might even ask a friend for an objective opinion on what the shades do for you fashion-wise.

It wasn’t all that long ago that accessories for men consisted of just a watch, and maybe a necklace. Things have changed big time. If you want to look good when you go out or make an impression on the job, the right accessories are crucial. Most men aren’t necessarily naturals when it comes to picking the right accessories for their outfits. If you want to add those little extras, but aren’t quite sure how to start, here are a few tips to get you started.

Ditch That Old Necktie

Don’t get us wrong, the right tie can make or break an outfit, but you can jazz things up a bit when the occasion calls for a little flair. Silk scarves can be used as an ultra-chic alternative to the boring old necktie. These scarves are available in a variety of colours. Adding a scarf as your neck tie can be a brilliant style choice for those who aren’t afraid to take chances

Bring on the Bling

Men, you don’t have to stick with a simple gold chain or watch when it comes to jewellery anymore. Men’s jewellery has come a long way in recent years, and you have your choice from a lot of different bling. There are a lot of items to choose from, and as always with jewellery, each outfit or occasion is going to call for different articles of jewellery. But, you can go all out these days without looking too over the top. The right amount of silver, gold, and iced-out accessories can make a huge statement about who you are.

The Right Shades are a Must

With summer coming you need a way to protect your eyes from the blazing sun. But remember, sunglasses aren’t just about function, think about form, too. Oversize sunglasses are a huge trend with men this year. You want to make a statement with your choice of eye-wear, so, you’ll probably want to pick up a few pairs to accentuate different looks.

Men, you are not confined to a world of looking plain when it comes to personal style. Don’t be afraid to make a statement with the way that you accessorize your outfits. It’s all about the details, after all. The right accessories make a world of difference.
