If you’ve been injured on the job and are unable to work, you and your family may be feeling the financial pinch at home. Bills piling up, gas for the car and groceries can all loom over your head when dealing with less income due to a workplace injury. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to help keep your head above water.

Workman’s Compensation

There are a number of types of accidents that can occur at work that will change the scope of your family and life. Forklifts, scaffolds, cranes and dangerous faulty machinery can be the cause of an accident. Laws state that all equipment should be maintained and inspected before employees begin to use at work. However, inattentiveness and rushed workers can lead to a major fail in this mandatory inspection.

Even after following your workplace guidelines and attending safety seminars, you may still find yourself the victim of an injury at your place of employment. For instance, if your duties at work include driving a forklift which was not properly maintained, it could result in an accident. If you happen to be a victim of such a situation, you will need to contact a forklift injury lawyer who can help you protect your rights and guide you through the worker’s compensation claim procedures.

Being out of work for any amount of time can cripple a family’s budget and make it difficult for them to dig their way out of debt. The workman’s compensation system is in place to protect injured individuals. The laws on this can vary from state to state, but if you’re on the job and have an accident, you need to file a claim immediately. You will also need to see a physician and receive treatment based on the extent of your injury. If you’re unable to go back to work, you’re going to have to implement a budget until your settlement comes in. This could take some time, so you need to practice frugality until it does.

Your Family Budget

If you’re unable to work and collect a paycheck after an injury, things may be tight for you financially at home. You may find that you are facing a mountain of hospital, medical and physician bills in addition to your regular monthly household expenses such as food and utilities. Now is the time to take a look at your outgoing bills and see if there are any areas that you can tweak until your workman’s compensation settlement is resolved or you’re able to go back to work. Here are some tips:

Unnecessary items, such as cable and luxury purchases, will have to be placed on the back burner

When grocery shopping, try to bring a calculator to help you keep track of costs

Plan your driving for errands wisely so you aren’t wasting gas by ‘double tripping’

For clothing, many areas have ‘swap parties’ where you can swap out gently used clothing at little or no cost

Planning for the Future

Once a settlement has been reached in your injury claim, you may receive compensation for any discomfort and pain you may have suffered. Before you spend any of that money, you need to assess your financial situation. This means going over all of your expenses and bills that you have incurred while you have been out of work, and taking into account if you’re going to be able to return to work. If you’re unable to work, your settlement needs to last into the future.

A personal injury attorney and financial planner can help you with your claim and guide you on planning for the future. They will start by taking care of all of your bills that may have piled up during your injury first. You will then need to go over and plan for the remainder of the money. If you have been permanently disabled, a financial planner can help you live within your means for the duration of your life. Depending on the amount of money that you were awarded in your claim, the money may be placed in a trust where it can acquire interest.

Getting injured on the job can be physically, mentally and financially draining. It can sometimes be a long road back to recovery and life on the norm. However, receiving a settlement check will bring you significant relief, especially when you plan for your future and spend your money wisely.

Babies are so precious and parents want to protect them from everything. In the parent’s arms is thought to be one of the most protective places for an infant. There is an old wives tale that says consistently holding a baby will spoil them to the point that they will cry to be held all of the time. Experts have been asked of the validity of this statement and their answers vary. One thing is true: every parent and baby is different and thus, reactions to the same experience vary as well.

New parents may find themselves in the position of consistently holding their baby because they are either in awe of their little one, anxious about their baby’s safety, or a little of both. This could happen with more experienced parents if the baby is fussy and inconsolable from colic. Nevertheless, there are those times when you must be hands-free. Cribs and bassinets may provide a safe haven but these are not as portable. Fortunately, there are a number of convenient things you can use to lessen both you and your child’s anxiety about safety and help them to feel better if colicky through the type of toys and baby gear you provide for your infant.

Bouncers are commonly used as a hands-free alternative. There are so many in different styles with different features that come in lots of colours to choose from to suit your baby’s décor and even gender. Some bouncers have a lot of features while others may focus on 1 or 2. Bouncers by Bright Starts offers over-sized cradling seats with plush fasteners to provide a cozy environment for nesting and resting. They have chairs that only vibrate while others may rock, recline, and vibrate. Still others may vibrate and play music. Most of these bouncers may include the playtime bar with toys that dangle to delight your little one. This bar can be removed for ease of access to your baby. All have plush machine washable cushions.

Activity gyms offer back and tummy time for your baby with several features to entertain and fabrics to choose from. These gyms may play music, light up, and make fun sounds. Most will have a bar that dangles teethers, plush toys, mirrors, or rattlers from them. There are those gyms that grow with your infant to toddler stage by converting to an activity table.

Swings are a great way to secure your infant while you handle the necessities of your day. Like bouncers and activity gyms, swings offer different features and fabric choices too. You may choose to have one that reclines, offers different swing speeds, play music, and easily folds away to store or travel. Nevertheless, there are many options on the market.

Everyone has different parenting styles and no one way is the right way. However, making your baby feel safe, secure, and loved is key to a happy infant and raising a happy confident kid. When your attention cannot be devoted to your baby because of chores, errands, and time spent with other children, there are toys and gear that you can use to fill in those gaps that are safe and entertaining. If the situation allows, then, take along your infant when choosing these toys and gear to get your baby’s reaction to them first hand in the store. If possible, place your baby in the bouncer or swing and see if they like it. This way you will know before making the purchase that it may help you to accomplish your hands-free tasks.

Adults all know the dangers of not wearing a seat belt, yet some people still choose not to undertake this simple lifesaving task. Most individuals, however, do not question the necessity of keeping babies in car seats while they’re in tow. Car accidents are the leading cause of death in children, and using baby car seats is imperative to decreasing this number. There are several things that every parent should know about when it comes to car seat safety.

Car Seat Laws and Testing

Baby car seats must undergo rigorous testing before they are released into the general public. Tests are usually done using the Federal Motor Vehicle Standards. These standards demand that a car seat be correctly installed in a vehicle and a baby-sized test dummy be put into the seat. The car is then driven at 30 MPH into a rigid structure (usually a wall).

Every state in America has laws stating that children under the age of four must be latched into a child safety seat when traveling in a vehicle. Our attorneys at injury lawyers.com explain that after the age of four, the laws between states vary considerably. Child booster seats are the next step in car safety protection after baby car seats, but some states only require these seats to be used up until the age of five. Every parent should know their local laws in relation to this.

Second Hand Baby Car Seats

Many frugal parents often wonder if it is safe to buy a used child seat. The easiest answer is a simple ‘no’. This isn’t to say that a used baby seat won’t protect the child in the case of an accident, but there are just too many unknowns involved. A safety seat that has been in an accident, for instance, is no longer as capable of protecting a child. Also, there’s usually no quick way to find out if there was a product recall on the seat when buying second hand. These flaws, added to the fact that a parent cannot know if all necessary parts are still in the seat, make buying second hand baby car seats a risky proposition.

Incorrect Baby Car Seat Use

There are several ways that a parent may misuse a baby car safety seat. Not positioning a car seat correctly or installing it too loosely can lead to disastrous results. The safety seat should be in the middle of the backseat to avoid damage from side impact crashes. It’s also important to practice proper car seat installation since some studies have found that 85% of parents actually install baby car seats too loosely:

Place car seat into position.

Pull seat belt through correct positions.

Use knee, elbow or upper body to put weight on the car seat while pulling the seat belt tight.

Engage the seat belt locking mechanism once the straps are as tight as possible

It’s also important to make sure that the straps holding a child in the car seat are tight enough. If a parent is able to pinch the material of the straps between their fingers, then it is too loose for the child. This can lead to babies being discharged from the car seat during a damaging wreck.

Defective Units

Unfortunately, even parents who put a great deal of time into ensuring that their baby’s car seat is properly installed can have issues with the seat. There have been numerous recalls on baby car seats over the years, and these recalls usually only occur after multiple babies have been injured due to defective units. If this occurs, it is important to contact a lawyer immediately. An attorney can make sure that a child’s medical bills are covered while also bringing attention to the dangers of the specific car seat. This can prevent heartache for a multitude of other parents.

Baby car safety seats are an absolute necessity for infants. These safety devices aren’t just safe and smart; they are also the law. States have passed child safety seat laws because it’s a fact that these seats can save the lives of young children and infants. Having just a little bit of knowledge when it comes to baby car seats can go a long way in protecting young children.

Rather than taking on a new car payment, many of us will run our old heaps into the ground. Others find that they are so addicted to their Corvette that they can’t trade it in, no matter how drastically their lifestyle has changed. If you’ve even briefly entertained the thought of getting rid of your car, here are five ways to know when it’s really time:

1.Your Lifestyle Has Changed

Many people find that the vehicle they purchased three years ago no longer fits their lifestyle. If you purchased a two-seater and now have a set of triplets, it’s time to look for something a bit more family-friendly. If you bought a pickup truck to use on the farm and have moved to the city, it’s time to trade it in for a car that’s easier on gas. Look at your vehicle and your lifestyle: if your choice of vehicle isn’t in par with the current way that you’re living, it’s time to hit the showroom floor.

2.Check Your Bank Account

Financial circumstances have been changing for millions of people in America over the last few years. Sit down and calculate the total expenses involved in keeping your current vehicle. Factor in your monthly payment, insurance premiums, maintenance prices, and cost of gas. If your financial standing has changed, you may be stretching yourself too thin with your current car.

3.You Have to Love It

Let’s be honest: if you don’t love your car, it’s going to pain you to make that payment every month. What you were in love with for the first few months may now be an albatross around your neck. If the mere thought of driving your car one more mile makes you seethe in anger, it’s time to start shopping for something new.

4.Your Mechanic Knows Your First Name

If your vehicle is out of warranty and it has been in the shop more often than it’s been on the road, it’s time to get something new. It’s normal to expect cars to need repairs throughout their lives; it’s not normal to have your car in the shop for something new every other month. If your vehicle has reached the point that you’re paying far more to fix it then you’ll ever recoup by selling it, it has lived its life; do it a favor and put it out to pasture.

5.You’ve Got Big Trouble Ahead

If you notice blue smoke spewing from your tailpipe or a revving engine when you aren’t depressing the accelerator, your vehicle is getting ready to meet its end. Any of these signs preclude big trouble! If your car is out of warranty, is more than five years old, or is paid off, then the amount you will pay to replace the engine or transmission may simply not be worth it. You’ll have to run the numbers on your own, comparing the cost versus the value of your vehicle, but these problems typically mean that it is time to go car shopping.

6. You Want Better Safety Features

What are your priorities, now that you have kids? If you bought a car during your pre-kids era that was simply based on affordability or looks, but cut corners on safety features, then it is time to put that car out to pasture. Nothing could be more important than keeping your kids safe while you’re on the road. This is especially the case if you have a teenage driver, or will in the next couple of years. If your current car has below-average crash-test ratings, no anti-lock braking system, or doesn’t have adjustable shoulder seat belts, look into retiring your vehicle and getting another.

Don’t hang on to your car longer than you should. If your lifestyle has changed, your car is in the shop frequently, or you are seeing the signs of major trouble, it’s time to get yourself into a different vehicle. While you may not want to pick up a monthly car payment, your sanity and safety will be well worth the money you spend.

Finding car insurance coverage for your teen driver can be a stressful task. For the years prior to your teen earning their license, you’ve heard that the cost of insuring your teenager can be astronomical. Insuring teen drivers can be quite expensive but there are ways to save money if you know where to look. Here’s how to compare insurance companies:

1. Get Several Quotes

Remember: just because you have insurance now doesn’t mean that you have to stick with your current company. Get online and look at several insurance companies and use their free quote features. You may find that one company is significantly cheaper than another, for the exact same coverage.

2. Discounts

Many insurance companies offer discounts for teen drivers. The good student discount is by far the most popular. If your child is in high school or college and is maintaining a B average, you can expect to save anywhere between ten and 20 percent on your premiums.

Some insurance companies also offer discounts for any driver’s classes that have been taken beyond basic driver’s ed. Look for insurance companies that offer discounts for defensive driving courses and sign your child up. Not only will you save on your insurance premiums, but you can feel better knowing that your child is as prepared as possible for the responsibility of the road.

3. Which Car?

Talk to your insurance agent before you add a teen driver to your policy. Find out if your current company will assign drivers to specific cars. You may own one vehicle on which you can insure your child relatively inexpensively and another that will send your premiums through the roof. Be warned though: not all insurance companies will allow you to assign a driver to a car.

4. New Car

If you are considering purchasing a new or used car for your teenager, talk to your insurance agent first. Some cars are very expensive to insure and others are quite reasonable. You can expect to find the most cost-effective to insure cars in the mid-size, family sedan range. It might not make your teenager look “cool”, but it will save you from spending a hefty chunk of your salary to insure them.

5. Consider Lowering Coverage

You never want to skimp on coverage for the vehicle that your teen will drive, but you may be able to lower coverage on a vehicle that they will not have access to. Consider lowering your coverage on any vehicles that are paid off and that only mom and dad will be driving. This isn’t going to lower the cost of insuring your teen, per se, but it can help make up the difference.

Don’t procrastinate when it comes to insuring your teen driver; should he or she be involved in an accident, your insurance company may or may not cover them. If they do cover them, they may raise your premiums retroactively. With the proper amount of research, it is possible to insure your teen driver without going broke.

As a parent, you want your kids to look their best. The way your kids dress can often times determine how well they fit in. However, knowing what’s fashionable for your kids can be a challenge with styles constantly changing. The following are 10 fashion tips to help you make sure your kids look their best. These tips may also help you save a little money along the way.

1. It’s all about the hair. If you are raising girls, this tip is probably very familiar to you. The way your kids wear their hair makes all the difference. Younger girls will appreciate hair bows and other cute accessories. Flowers made specifically for the hair is a hot trend for girls both young and old. Older girls may want to explore with highlight. The perfect hair completes the perfect outfit.

2. Jewelry is a must. Both boys and girls will be fashionable wearing the latest trend in jewelry. Jewelry for boys can be limited to bracelets and necklaces. Girls, however, have a wide range of selection. Bottle cap necklaces are a popular trend at the moment.

3. Earrings add class. Along with necklaces and bracelets, many girls enjoy wearing earrings. For younger girls, studs are the perfect option. Older children may want something with a little sparkle or dangle. Dress your little girls up with earrings to add a little class.

4. Concentrate on comfort. While you want your kids to look hip and trendy, you also want to make sure that they are comfortable. As a rule of thumb, don’t buy it unless your child is comfortable wearing it. Don’t force your child to be uncomfortable in an effort to make them fashionable. Comfort should be the key when buying clothes for them.

5. Shoes should match the season. If you want your child to be fashionable, make sure his shoes match the season. Wearing flip flops during the winter is a big no, no. A popular trend during the winter are boots. Make sure your child is clad in boots each and every winter.

6. Winterizing the wardrobe. Shoes are not the only thing that needs to match the season. Your child should have separate wardrobe for winter and summer. As the temperature gets cooler, begin to store away clothing that he can no longer wear. Winterize his wardrobe in an effort to keep in fashionable and in style.

7. Hand-me-downs are great! Be sure to save clothes that you spend good money on for your other children in the future. This can help you save tons of money. While a few things may “go out of style” there are other clothing items that will always be classic. Jackets, pants, and sweater are all things that you can save over time for your other children.

8. Buy clothing out of season to save the most money. If you want your child to be fashionable but are on a tight budget, you may have no other option but to buy clothing out of season. When the summer ends, pick up clothing that your children will be able to wear next year. You can catch the higher priced, better quality clothing on sale at the end of the season.

9. Let your child get creative. While you want your child to dress in style, you also want him or her to get creative and choose clothing that he likes to wear. Don’t try to control every single thing your child wears. Let your child have the opportunity to find a style that is unique to him.

10. Clothing essentials. There are certain things that are essential for every wardrobe. These include undergarments, t-shirts, pajamas, and turtle necks. Make sure that your child has the clothing essential that he needs to complete his wardrobe. You can’t be fashionable without the essentials.

Use the fashion tips above to help your kids fit in with all the others. What your children choose to wear can be an opportunity for them to show their personality. Help them be fashionable while also giving them space to make their own decisions as to what they want to wear. How fashionable are you children?

After kids start to become school aged, finding just the right gift can become a nerve-racking experience. What do they want? What will they use? What’s cool? Or perhaps you would even settle for what’s “not embarrassing.” The pressure to reach these goals only escalates once they start reaching the tween years. Not to worry though, with these suggestions you’re sure to find a gift your tween will love.

Personalized Backpack Design (PakNak)

For tweens it’s all about finding their individuality and trying to stand out from the crowd. Paknak designs are a great and fun way for them to both express their personality and still allow them to switch it out when their personality changes next week! Plus it’s a great way for them to quickly identify their bag among the throng of similar looking bags.

Bouncin’ Around the Christmas Tree (Mega Moon Mood Hopz)

Get your tweens outside and active with Mega Moon Mood Hopz. Strap these onto their shoes and your tween will be bounding down the block like they’re walking on the moon! A fun and unique gift sure to delight the tweens, teens and dads alike!

Lunch in Style (Built NY)

This is not your grandma’s lunch box. Bringing lunch to school just might become bearable with Built NY’s selection of bold and unique lunch totes. Select from a variety of sizes, colours and styles to fit your tween’s personality.

Active Gaming (Hyper Dash Extreme)

Encourage your tween’s energy with Hyper Dash Extreme. This fast paced game is flexible enough to be played indoors or out and can be played solo as a personal challenge or with family and friends for high-paced, interactive fun. The difficulty level is adjustable ensuring years of fun that grows with your tween.

Gift Cards

While gift cards may seem like the gifting version of a shortcut, don’t underestimate the power of the right gift card for a growing tween. Not only is it money in their pocket, which they’re sure to love, but a gift card is one more way for them to feel like they’re growing up and independent. The novelty is even greater if the card is to a specialty store that they love and are rarely able to indulge in. Or, to the movie theater where they can get both a movie and a popcorn with friends and feel like an adult for a night.

Tweener Laptops (Netpal Netbook)

For a Christmas your tweens will never forget, impress them with their own Disney Netpal Netbook. This customized laptop, with dozens of parental controls already built-in, allows your tween to learn how to operate a computer and software as well as navigate the internet from the safety of a laptop built with their security in mind.

No matter what you decide, don’t forget it’s always a good idea to look at places like Offers.com before you buy and make sure that you’re taking advantage of online coupons, discounts and promotions. So relax, get your tween’s gift online today and enjoy the rest of your holiday season.

As a woman, you frequently make over your own wardrobe to match the seasons. Winter clothes are packed away to make room for summer things, and your whole wardrobe shifts to coordinate with the sunny days ahead. Unfortunately, without your help, it can be hard to get the rest of your family to take the initiative to make the switch to summer styles.

Take your spouse, for example. While he may be only too eager to start wearing his workout shorts around the house, he’s not likely to do much with the rest of his closet unless you start prodding him along. Rather than a consistent nagging pressure, set up a weekend afternoon to help him put away the clothes that will be too heavy to be comfortable in the summer months. This will help you both be able to spot holes in his summer wardrobe, and places where his summer clothes are seasons – if not decades – out of style.

Children are also a concern. Many children have definite favourites in their wardrobe and can throw a fit if you simply pack up their most popular outfits for the season. Instead, invite them into the process. Have your toddler help you put sweaters in boxes, or ask your elementary aged child to help you pick out which outfits are January clothes and which should be saved for July. By making them a part of the process, you cut down on the surprise factor and save yourself from enduring tantrums or fits over changes in the closet.

Though your own wardrobe will be a change than can be made independently, getting your whole family into summer styles takes extra effort and smart tactics. However, by taking the time to work one on one with your spouse and your children, you can bridge the whole family into summer seasonal wear with minimum stress or strife.
