Modern day designers have come up with fashionable clothing suitable for women of all body sizes. These designs are of different colors and sizes making it possible for any woman to choose nice fitting lingerie. However, it is important to have some knowledge before going to the market to do your shopping. This will ensure that the lingerie you choose is not a mistake.

To get lingerie that fit your body perfectly, make sure that you take accurate measurements of your hip and bust waist first. You also need to know the size of the band of your bra. To measure the size of your bust, wrap a tape at the nipple level round your body. If your bra does not offer you enough support, you can add one or two inches. Taking accurate measurements is very important because it ensure that buttons do not pull open at the largest part of your body. It will also enable you to choose lingerie that will not be too tight but a flowing or clinging one.

Make sure that you know your body shape. There are women who have apple shapes. Their body weight is at the central part of the body. There are others with a pear’s shape. These women have large or ample behinds and thighs. Some women also have column figures with little waist. These women have similar size from their bust all the way to the thighs. Therefore, knowing your body shape is also very important when choosing lingerie.

With knowledge about your body shape and size, you can easily accentuate what should be de-emphasized and what to be featured. You will also know what to minimize when choosing the lingerie. It is important that you concentrate on the type of body you have. For instance, you need to consider the size of your bust line. You should also consider your shoulders and arms. If your thighs have bumps or rolls avoid thongs and high-cut legs. Instead, choose long pants and tap pants. You can also go for wide-leg styles of floating pants.

Once you have taken your measurements accurately and known your body shape and features go online to look for the best store where you can buy your lingerie. There are many online stores from which you can find lingerie in different sizes. Some of these will have customer care executives who can guide you in making the right choice.

Nevertheless, choose the lingerie with colors that will highlight important and best features of your body. Make these features patterned, rich and light. To avoid eye details, choose dark but romantic hues. You should also choose clothing made of fabrics that suit you. For instance, if you want to show your bumps, you may choose shiny velor, charmeuse or shiny satin. You can easily get plus size lingerie made from these fabrics. They are also available in different types such as corset, Basque, stockings, among others. All you need is to do thorough research before making your final buying decision.

There’s a fine line between sexy lingerie and slutty bedroom attire, but how do you know where to draw the line? What’s the difference between something that will turn your man on and something that will turn him off?

When it comes to dressing for success in the bedroom, all you have to remember is the 5 C’s:

Confidence

In a study done by GQ Magazine in 2011, men revealed that above weight, hair, make-up and body shape, the thing they found sexiest about a woman is confidence. Pictures of two women were compared in which the more physically attractive of the two was rated higher, but when the men participating in the study met the women, 9 out of every 10 men changed answers to give the woman with the lower rating a higher score. Why? The more attractive woman was instructed to be reserved and inverted while meeting the participants, while the other woman was instructed to be flirtatious and confident. When you’re choosing your lingerie, the first thing you should look for is something that makes you feel confident. If you’re insecure about your stomach, this could mean a baby-doll that has high sex appeal, but covers your problem area. If you’re proud of your breasts, wear something that accentuates that feature. Something that makes you confident is something that will make you sexy!

Crotchless

In that same study, less than 5% of men said they think crotchless panties, stockings, and other outfits are sexy. If you find something in the store that’s crotchless, put it down and keep shopping.

Complimentary

We can all watch the Victoria’s Secret runway show and get great ideas from the women on stage, but what are the chances that little number is going to look the same on us as it does on Heidi? Find something that compliments your skin tone, your body shape, and your height in a classy way.

Curves

Women look at their curves and often think ‘fat’. Men look at a woman’s curves and think ‘fabulous’! It’s been proven since the dawn of time that men are attracted to curvier women, so embrace yours! Instead of trying to get into a bustier that’s so tight it looks like it should be dancing around a pole just so your love handles are smoothed down, wear something that subtly forms to your body and shows off your curves!

Comfort

We all know there are outfits that would make men drool no matter who wears then, but how much are you going to enjoy being in that latex nurse outfit for an entire night? When you’re shopping for something to wear in the bedroom, always try it on first. Can you wear it and feel sexy, or are you going to feel silly? Can you comfortably move in it, or is the underwire already uncomfortable? You’re not just going to be wearing that number alone in a dressing room; you’re going to be fully exposed in it to someone else. Make sure you’re going to be comfortable, both mentally and physically.

When you’re finding something to wear in the bedroom, keep the 5 C’s in mind and you’ll end up with results to lust for.

Over the years, women’s shapewear has been both a friend and an enemy of the female sex. These garments tend to create a sort of love hate relationship for those who wear them. However, the changes that have been made to improve body shapers make this type of apparel more universally friendly. Most people still contrive up image of girdles and corsets that have 20 different strings and only manage to make you appear thinner by squeezing all of the air out of your body. This horrific image can now be replaced with the much more comfortable and versatile garments that make up today’s shapewear.

The first major improvement to shapewear is the fabric used and the slimming method used. The brand of shapewear determines exactly what materials are used but microfiber technology and lycra are popular fabrics. Modern shapewear is designed to fit to your body instead of squeezing your body into a tiny confined shape. The technology of these body shapers is also made to repel moisture so you stay cool and dry all day long.

Now that the makers of this type of clothing seem to have mastered a technique that delivers a slim look without too much discomfort, we’re seeing the category expand into many other clothing markets. Shapewear is no longer just an undergarment. Body shaper swimwear has become incredibly popular in the last few years. You can find slimming swimsuits in many styles and designs. High-waisted bathing suit bottoms have recently made a comeback, which makes the high-waisted slimming style of shapewear swimsuits even more fitting. The technology in these suits helps to slim your stomach and define your waist, without ever hinting that it’s actually a type of body shaper.

Another expansion of women’s body shapers has come in the active wear department. Many women feel self-conscious about their bodies in the tighter fit of gym clothes. Yoga pants, compression shorts and other style of workout pants use special design technology to tame your thighs and smooth your hips. You can also find camis and racerback tops with tummy slimming design and built in bras to smooth your chest and back area.

Recently we’ve also begun to see the emergence of regular day ware with body shaper technology. Slacks, skirts, dresses and tops can be found with shapewear features. You don’t have to sacrifice style either, as these garments follow the latest trends while keeping you looking slim and sexy. This option also removes the need to wear an additional garment underneath to reap the benefits of womens shapewear.

It’s a well known fact that 85% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Whether it’s because of a lack of understanding on how a bra should properly fit, or if a bra size is related to a psychological identity to it, many women settle for less and may wear their bras based on what they think is a nice sounding “average” size (i.e. 36 C).

The truth is that the myths we have come to believe while continuing to wear poorly fitting bras can physically damage breast tissue and can hide a slimmer silhouette.

So why do so many of us ignore this statistic and avoid finding out how we really size up? Understanding rather than simply knowing the statistic will help improve how we wear our bras.

Some Common Myths behind our Bras

Bra Size-Figure Correlation: Bigger band number, bigger cup letter means that we are a larger person. This, of course, is not true. For many women, we can have a strong identity to our bra size. This strong identification oftentimes stems from the belief that bra size is correlated to the size of our overall figures or the size of bra we think (or wish) to be. Cup size is not an indication of your overall figure, but indicates the size of the bust only.

Big band and small cup will give you the best figure: Most of the time, this theory is proved wrong and usually ends up being the opposite. Many women opt for a larger band size to increase comfort and to reduce the appearance of “back fat” under their clothing. You can see this when the band rides up the back (ironically making “back fat” look even more prevalent) since a loose back brings the weight of the breasts to the straps; this leads to straps digging into your shoulders and minimal support of the bust. The band should be snug as it supports 90% of the weight of your breasts.

Identifying Common Fit Problems

These common problems are indicators of wearing the wrong bra size. Ask yourself what you would like to see different with your bras and if you have encountered any of the following:

- Problem: Sore shoulders.

What it means: The band is too loose.

Solution: The bra should still stay on even when the straps are off. Most of the support comes from the band. Try a smaller band size or wider straps.

- Problem: If you can fit more than two fingers between your back and the bra band when worn.

What it means: The bra is too loose.

Solution: It is always better if the band fits tighter as it gives the most support. When you pull back the band you should hear a tight “snap!” Try a smaller band size.

- Problem: The back of the band is riding up your back, giving the appearance of “back fat”

What it means: The band size is too big and all of the support is going to the straps.

Solution: Try a smaller band size.

- Problem: Breasts spilling out of the cups.

What it means: Either the cup size is too small or the band size isn’t big enough.

Solution: Try a larger cup size, or try the original size of cup with a larger band size.

How to Approach a Fitting

Now that the myths are debunked, it’s time to get a professional bra fitting. It’s strongly urged to visit a professional, preferably at a boutique where they have more experience fitting, accompanied with a larger size selection.

Here are some tips to make your fitting a success:

1. Feel comfortable and trusting in the bra fitting professional.

2. Don’t look at the size of the bra when trying it on.

3. Keep an open mind – shop by fit, not by size.

4. Wear the new, better fitting bra under your clothing for comparison.

5. Go with the bra that fits, even if the size is not what you expected.

All Bras are not Made Equal

Just like clothing, bra sizes are not universal. Variables such as different manufacturers, purpose of the bra, bra style, etc., will have an effect on what size will work best on you. Wearing a bra according to fit and not size, will support, lift, and separate your bust. This not only preserves breast tissue, but will give the appearance of lost inches around your waist (where the breasts were previously poorly supported), allowing you to look your best and hold yourself with confidence!

Women have been wearing bras for centuries, but the reason for bras has been ever changing. Starting out as a necessity, uncomfortable wear-age like the corset was so restricting that you could barely breathe. Moving into later periods of time, the bra became necessary (and I use that word loosely) for size. Women wanted bigger and better- especially when being compared to their female friends. Hence the “size” revolution. Later on, bras became more of a fashion statement. No one TRULY cared about function. As long as it held up the girls, the crazier and wilder it looked, the better.

However, when was the last time you really stopped and thought about why your bras work the way they do? It turns out that creating a beautiful bustline look is actually an engineering wonder on par with holding up a suspension bridge.

A well engineered bra can have more than 12 different engineering elements in the works. Everything from the seaming to the strap size is designed to help properly distribute weight to keep everything where it ought to go, comfortably. Bring in extra challenges, like size enhancements or push up capability, and the engineering level of difficult shoots up even more.

One of the more interesting engineering elements has to do with the straps and the bands. A properly designed and well fitted bra is supposed to bear the bulk of its weight load on the band, leaving the straps are mere placeholders. Thus, if your straps are digging into your shoulders, it is a sign of an engineering flaw or a poor fit to your bra.

The elasticity around the edge seams and decorative lace on your bra also serves an engineering function. Bras are supposed to support you firmly without being visible under your clothing. The elasticity around the edges allows the bra to cling to your shape to avoid clothing lines and help ensure a strong support fit even if you are slightly unevenly proportioned. Preserving this stretch and hold power is a prime reason bras are supposed to be washed by hand and never tossed in the dryer.

Bras may be a foundational wardrobe item that you take for granted, but you shouldn’t overlook the engineering behind their performance power. Keeping your bustline in place and looking great takes thoughtful design that goes well beyond just adding lacey bows!

I was recently having a casual conversation and was absent-mindedly swinging around a knit hat when the guy I was talking to gave me an incredulous look and asked: “are you swinging around your intimates?!” This got me thinking: if a magenta knit hat can pass off as intimates, Toronto really needs some major improvements in the lingerie shopping department. Although it’s a bit of a hike, New York City has THE best lingerie store on this side of the pond, Kiki De Montparnasse. Named after Man Ray’s mistress, the shop is slightly pretentious, shamelessly kinky, super sexy and tremendously luxurious.

The affectionately nicknamed Kiki DM houses the finest French lingerie, bath and body products, art, and what they call “instruments of pleasure”. The flagship New York store oozes sex appeal and looks very much like a Parisian boudoir with its plush cream carpets, chandeliers, sheer black curtains, a huge bed dressed in burgundy silk and gold sheets and pillows, and a minimalist approach to displaying their merchandise. Their second store in Los Angeles is a bit flashier to match the dazzling lights of Hollywood and is brighter and more modern, but just as seductive as its New York counterpart. Marble floors, velvet drapes, a fireplace, candles and a 1000 square foot garden with a courtyard fountain keep with the theme of absolute luxury.

The merchandise is just as sexy and luxurious as the actual stores are. Their lingerie is designed with the art of seduction in mind, and only the finest silk and French laces are used in each collection. Kiki DM also creates loungewear, but they’re a far cry from the average sweats so commonly lounged in. Sheer baby dolls, body conscience body suits, rompers, corsets and tank and boy short combos ensure you’re not lounging for long. Despite their seriously sexy lingerie, their less than serious French lesson panties are their top sellers. Not your average French tutorial, these panties come in 5 “lessons” and read, “mange-moi “ (eat me), “ aime-moi” (love me), “fesse-moi” (spank me) and “attache-moi” (tie me up). Best paired with their silk blindfolds and 24K gold handcuffs, Kiki DM is not afraid to show their kinky side.

Putting just as much thought into their bath and body collections as their lingerie, the lotions and potions have “been developed to embrace and expand sensual discovery on every level”. Each limited edition scent is formulated with the most refined and natural ingredients, and all bath and body lotions have aphrodisiac scents. Candles, triple milled French soaps, body shimmer and massage oil among other products are all a part of the Kiki DM lifestyle as “sensual pleasure and fulfillment are paramount to a well-lived life”. Those may just be the sexiest words to live by ever.
