Living in the plus sizes, you get hit with a ton of black. Yes, it may be a slimming colour, but the truth of the matter is that black, like pure white, is not always a very flattering shade for your complexion. Looking haggard and washed out is every bit as unflattering as wearing clothes that don’t fit. Thus, you want to be sure that you are dressing yourself in colours that bring you to life.

Part of the issue in finding your core colours is understanding your basic natural colouring. If you colour your hair or tan regularly, you are masking your basic colour which can affect your core colouring choices. You want to know the undertones of your skin, in order to choose colours that compliment your undertones and liven up your overall look.

For example, if you have very pale colouring, you may find that black, dark plums, navy hues, and other deep shades emphasize dark circles and overpower your basic colouring. Rather than being slimming, these colours will look tiring and age your complexion.

Instead, you may find the paler colours and earth tones will lighten up your complexion and brighten up your whole look. By flattering yourself, you will make every outfit that you put on into a slimming one. Livening up your face and freshening your overall impression will make you seem more rested and detract from less favourable areas of your body.

To find which shades really bring your face to life, choose one basic top in a variety of colours the next time you go to the store. As you try on each one, ignore the fit of the piece and focus on how your body looks in colour. Keep notes if necessary. By the end of the session, you may be surprised at the new colour palate that you have to work with as you build a wardrobe not around black, but around your core colours.

Styling tips for plus-sized women.

Contrary to seemingly popular belief, women with bodies larger than a size 12 deserve to enjoy their bodies and their clothes. Just because I wear plus-sized clothing does not mean I have no sense of style, am not interested in fashion or do not want to look good.

Shopping as a plus-sized woman can be intimidating, overwhelming and disheartening. It seems that many department stores do feel that plus-size women don’t care about style. One way to get around this is to shop online. There are many online stores that cater to plus-sized women. They tend to have more variety and more stylish options available. Shopping online also allows you the luxury of trying on clothing in the privacy of your own home.

When you buy clothing online, two things are very important. First, carefully examine the store’s return policy. Be sure that you can easily return something that doesn’t work for you. Second, don’t go by sizes. (This is true no matter where you shop.) Clothing sizes vary from designer to designer. Don’t assume that because you’re an 18 in one clothing line, you’re an 18 in all clothing lines. Rather, take measurements of your body. Most online stores/catalogues give the measurements of their clothing, allowing you to choose a fit that is just right.

Often, plus-sized women think that showing less of our bodies is better, hiding them under layers of black, baggy clothing. Think again!! Black may be slimming, but all-over black can be drab and wash out your skin tone. You can add a splash of colour, or even go with a monochromatic suit in a bright colour.

Fit is more important than colour in making you look slimmer. If your clothes fit you well, you will look better, no matter the colour. Properly fitted clothes can accentuate your feminine shape, making you look better and feel more confident. If you’re uncomfortable wearing a completely fitted outfit, try fitted pants with a tunic on top, or a fitted top with a flowing skirt.

It’s also a good idea to pick one of your favourite body parts and find a way to accentuate it. Do you have great legs? How about a long skirt with a slight slit in it? Nice arms? Go sleeveless (if you don’t want to go completely sleeveless, drape a shawl or sweater over a sleeveless shirt so that just a bit of your arms peek out). Or show a little cleavage. Work with what you’ve got!

And finally, accessorize. One of the many great things about accessories is that they don’t come in sizes! A great necklace, bracelet or earrings can really set off an outfit.

Get clothes that fit, don’t be afraid of colour, work with what you’ve got, and don’t forget to accessorize. You’ll be sure to make a splash!

Finding the perfect fit, fabric and style for women's pants.

To be able to find the perfect pants that will best suit you, a woman needs to be aware of the three basic styles available when it comes to fitting pants for their wardrobe. You will also need to understand how to combine colours and other small details that will make a huge impact on your final look.

Let us give some important tips here.

If you are more on the petite side and you want to look as tall as possible, then you should always go for the same colour top and bottom. If on the other extreme you are a little too tall for your liking, then the trick is to wear a different colour top from your bottom.

Women who are too heavy or too thin should avoid fitted legs at all costs. You can be sure that you will never look good whatever design you opt for. The legs of your pants should be flared if you are tall and slender. On the other hand if you have fuller thighs straight legs for your pants are a much better choice. If you want to create an illusion of fullness then you should choose wide legged pants.

Your choice of fabric is also very important. The most popular cloth for pants includes denim, corduroy, velveteen, cotton and knits. The key rule with fabrics here is to avoid material that clings to your body tightly.

Also remember that your pants should fit as comfortably as possible on the waist. You must avoid at all costs pants that are extremely tight around the hips and waist. Or even worse the kind that look loose and baggie around your bum.

Generally do not be in a hurry when shopping for pants. Patiently keep trying until you find the pants that best suit you. You should be able to know the second you see yourself in them. They should be comfortable, and flatter your figure.

Finding the right jeans for plus-sized women.

Many plus-sized women feel very much left out when it comes to matters of fashion. Many feel that even basic fashion items like jeans can be a problem to find the right fit.

Actually, this should not be the case because things have changed a lot over the years. One of the reasons is that statistics show that that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people who fall into this extra large size bracket. The result is that women’s plus sized jeans are fairly easy to find at many of the most well-known department stores. Additionally, if you do not find anything adequate at these locations, you can venture into the increasing number of specialty stores that are around these days to find the perfect fit for whatever your shape and size.

There are numerous brands in the market that make choosing the right jeans pretty confusing. To avoid confusion, settle for the most famous brands namely Lee brand jeans or jeans made by Levi Strauss. While they may prove to be a little more costly than other brands it is important to remember that jeans from these fashion houses are made with special consideration for plus-sized women. A lot of investment has gone into the manufacture of the jeans made by these companies along with the experience of many years in the business which a plus sized woman will be happy to benefit from.

It is said that the devil is in the details, and women want jeans that are not only a great fit but are also stylish so they look their very best. Lee and Levi have specialized in jeans for many decades, so their pants come in varying cuts. Naturally this dramatically increases the chances of a plus-sized woman being able to find the perfect fit and design that would best suit them.

So it really doesn’t matter what you want your jeans for. It could be for daily wear or to dress them up with high heels or cute boots, but being a plus-sized woman does not mean that you have been left out of style. Not these days.
