Letting Your Kids Choose the Styles They Like
You know how important clothes are in both how you look and how you feel. Don’t you want your kids to look and feel great in the clothes you buy for them? Of course you raise your kids to know that who they are on the inside is most important, but kids want to be fashionable, too. Here are some great ideas for letting you kids have a little fun with their own wardrobe.
For Boys
Most boys won’t let you know how much they want to express their sense of style, but once you get them started you might be surprised. A can’t-miss idea for your son is to let him pick out some cool rock t-shirts of his favourite bands. The classic rock and roll band shirt never goes out of style. In fact you might be surprised when your son picks out a shirt that is a band that you used to listen to. Don’t ask too many questions though, or you might hear an answer, like, “I like the old classic bands sometimes too.” When your son starts calling the bands you grew up with “classic” you might start to feel a little old. In all seriousness, let you son have a little fun and express himself with some cool rock shirts.
For Girls
You might spend a little more time shopping with your daughter. Girls like to look pretty and to express their own unique style in the clothes that they wear. A big concern for parents of girls is that they sometimes want to choose clothes that are a little too revealing. Most parents want their daughters to dress a little more conservatively. You can have the best of both worlds by letting your daughter pick out some outfits with lots of fun colours and textures. Keep the clothes as conservative as you want in terms of the cut and fit, but let your daughter express herself through some outlandish colours and fun patterns. If you let your daughter have some say in the clothes she chooses, you’ll have fewer battles down the road. So let her go crazy when she chooses the colours for her wardrobe.
It’s always hard for parents when their kids want to start having a little more independence. If you can keep these simple style tips in mind when shopping for clothes with your kids, you will allow them to have some independence without totally losing your voice in the decision.
