Style Influencer Spotlight: Natalie Langston

Canadian television personality and It Girl Natalie Langston wears many (fashionable) hats. From emcee, reporter and producer to lifestyle expert on Global BC and JRFM, Natalie is a woman constantly on the go. She is a Volunteer and Spokesperson for Dress for Success Vancouver, member of Ladies Who Lunch Global Network for female entrepreneurs and Style Ambassador for the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards. You can usually find her out and about in Vancouver, or Toronto, covering the hottest events in town, all while looking confident and oh-so-chic in her local beauty and fashion favourites.

Your style is amazing! How would you describe it in three words?

Thank you! I gravitate towards styles that are comfortable, well-fitted to my body shape, that are also fun and show off my personality. My style in 3 words, that’s a tough one. Modern, classic, timeless.

How would you describe fashion in Vancouver?

Oh well that’s a good question. Vancouver has been criticized time and again for our fashion sense, or lack thereof. Maybe its hometown pride or our laid back, west coast vibe but we seem to take the simplest routes. There have been times such as at the Deighton Cup or Diner En Blanc that Vancouverites have really stepped up their fashion game, which is so refreshing. I know it’s out there and it would just be nice to see it more than twice a year.

Who influences your style and why?

The changing seasons and weather definitely influence my style, especially when I’m in Vancouver and Toronto. I have always loved style icon’s Audrey Hepburn and Greta Garbo and I like to channel their style every now and then. I also always love to see what Blake Lively’s wearing. Her street style and red carpet choices are always fantastic and we definitely enjoy similar signature looks. But basically my style revolves around what fits me well in all the right places and what’s comfortable and workable, so that I won’t have to fidget (so important when I’m on-camera). I try not to let current trends dictate my style but instead I incorporate a few basics in my wardrobe that will last over time, season after season.

You’re always dressed head to toe in great local fashion brands. What are some of your favourites?

Thank you!! Oh I have so many it’s hard to choose. I live very close to Fine Finds Boutique and I seriously pop in there every other day to grab the latest trends and pieces for on location shoots, events and photo sessions. They are always on trend with brands from LA, Toronto and New York and I never leave without a great piece in hand. The Latest Scoop is amazing for one of a kind pieces. I’m so proud of them from starting as a pop-up on South Granville to expanding to a full on store in Gastown!! Anytime I stop in there’s always a ton of new product that I just die over every time I’m in. I’ve been very lucky to wear an incredible fashion brand, Greta Constantine. Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong are doing some amazing things right now, pushing the fashion envelope and not to mention extremely talented. I’m constantly blown away with their latest collection each season. Oh and one of my favourite outerwear brands, Mackage continuously amazes me. I also love Noize Original that is a Canadian outerwear brand from Montreal, that’s vegan, accessible and stylish.

Your hair and makeup are always perfectly on point. Any tips you can share?

Enlist a great hair and makeup artist if you can or for those special occasions! Mine is Christina Petry from Red Carpet Ready by Christina. She is fantastic because she is super quick, always on trend and pushes me to try styles outside my comfort zone. On days when I don’t have her to paint my face and braid my hair I definitely have quick tips to keep getting ready down to a minimum. I’m always on the go, running here, there and everywhere and have no time to waste. I use a bb cream that has everything in one. A serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and SPF with just the right coverage. This saves me at least 10 minutes eliminating multiple beauty steps. I’m OBSESSED with AnaVBeauty’s BB cream to say the least!!

What are some of your favourite affordable makeup brands?

Well of course AnaV Beauty. They have great skin and eye makeup palettes. I also love Emani, available at your nearest London Drugs, that’s a vegan high-performance makeup designed for the most sensitive skin (like mine!!!).

What do you love most about working in the media industry in Vancouver?

What I love most about working in the media industry in general is that everyday is never the same and it continues to surprise me in regard to where some days may take me. I’m a busy bee at heart and I can never sit still for too long without embarking on a new challenge or chasing down the next story. Meeting and talking to some of the most extraordinary people, being able to tell their story while showcasing their talents is the reason why I got into broadcasting in the first place and that will never grow old for me.

Is there one Canadian beauty event and one fashion event you look forward to more than any others?

Ooh I always look forward to the big London Drugs Beauty event where we preview all of the new products and brands for the year ahead, BEFORE they even hit the shelves. That is one of my favourites for sure!!! One fashion event I look forward to every year is the CAFA Awards, celebrating the best in arts and fashion in Canada and supporting outstanding achievement and emerging talent in the Canadian fashion industry! The Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards are so important as they bring together artists and influencers from all over the world to celebrate the diversity and creativity that is so prevalent in the Canadian fashion community! And for red carpet fashion, the Toronto International Film Festival! Some of Natalie Portman’s and Blake Lively’s best dressed have been from TIFF. It’s a fun, film festival that brings out a laid back cool vibe, where celebs pay tribute to some of their favourite Canadian designers like Narces, Greta Constantine and Stephen Caras. If you’re lucky you might even catch your fave celeb walking the streets of Toronto and pick up some of their street style.
