I have to be honest: I fell out of love with facial oils for a little while. In the transitions between spring, summer, and fall, I noticed changes in my skin (and in my habit of nervously touching it too much) that began to convince me that the slick substances I’d been testing out just weren’t cooperating well. Then, I had to remind myself of my previous penchant for the various golden nectars I’d treasured and slathered all over my complexion for years – I knew better.
Maybe, the serums I’d been massaging into my skin and mixing with other products weren’t what it needed at the time considering the changing climate. It was possible that the formulas didn’t work as synergistically as I thought they did, or maybe, some ingredients weighed heavier on my skin than others and didn’t absorb as well no matter the hyaluronic gel I layered underneath.
Then, the skies parted to reveal what I now like to call an “epiphanic” product from the Beauty Nut, a skin and body care brand founded to bring the benefits of pure, organic argan oil to the world by Canadian entrepreneur Sam Bouji.
After recognizing that Morocco is uniquely blessed with the special gift of argan oil, Bouji began to learn everything he could about argan and the community that produces it. From there, Bouji set out to create a global beauty brand that focuses on quality products and social good in order to help women “love their beauty”.
Today, his company donates 10 per cent of its profits back to the women’s cooperatives that produce the argan oil used in Beauty Nut products, along with precious prickly pear oil, which just so happens to be the star ingredient of that epiphanic product I was telling you about. As one of the rarest oils in the world, prickly pear contains the highest amount of vitamin E than any other plant oil on the market – a major skin healer that’s famous for its ability to lift scarring, soften, and protect from UV damage and free radicals.
“Prickly pear seed oil has been used in Morocco for many years due to it’s incredible health benefits for the skin. During one of my visits there, I had the pleasure of meeting a number of women who use this oil on a daily basis and was able to learn firsthand about it’s natural ability to help fight the signs of aging,” Bouji told me over an email exchange. “They taught me that prickly pear seed oil is higher in vitamin E than any other plant oil on the market and it was then I knew we needed to make it available in our line. At Beauty Nut, we believe anyone and everyone can use our products and prickly pear seed oil is no different.”
I wholeheartedly agree. Not only did I see results after using the Beauty Nut’s Inseediouosly Good Prickly Pear Seed Oil, my skin felt soothed by its texture and a single pump left no greasy residue behind. First impressions: Given the fact that it takes one tonne of hand-extracted, cold pressed prickly pear seeds to produce a single litre of the Beauty Nut’s Inseediouosly Good Oil, it’s easy to understand why it’s packaged in such a weighty, pretty pink and gold vessel. Knowing that the Prickly Pear Seed Oil is made by the same women’s cooperatives that produce the Beauty Nut’s Argan Oil, I couldn’t wait to open the box and was pleasantly surprised when I did.
Talkin’ specifics: Whether you have dry, sensitive, or mature skin, the Prickly Pear Seed Oil’s high vitamin E and betalain content works to restore elasticity, soften, and hydrate the skin at the same time. Betalains are full of unsaturated fatty acids that are critical to protecting against wrinkle-inducing free radical damage and stimulating healthy cell production. In turn, healthy cell production stimulates collagen production and promotes faster cell turnover for a more youthful looking complexion. All in all, the Prickly Pear Seed Oil is a weapon against premature aging.

The experience: Similar to argan oil, prickly pear seed oil is low on the comedogenic scale (a ranking system of how likely ingredients are to clog pores), making it an ultra-nourishing and hydrating supplement for acne-prone, dry, and damaged skin that won’t cause breakouts. Since the Prickly Pear Seed Oil also contains a high level of linoleic acid (63% to be exact), it absorbs into the skin easily and balances oil production, which I found to be true in my trial of the product. It felt light and finished dewy without leaving an oil slick on my face, even when layered under a cream moisturizer or tinted sunscreen. With consistent use, I noticed that my skin appeared softer and more even toned as well.
The verdict: The Beauty Nut’s pure Prickly Pear Seed Oil truly fortifies, renews, and restores skin. It’s also a picture perfect defence mechanism against the winter cold. This stuff is inseediuosly good. Would recommend.
