#BeautyFind: Consonant Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream

This February, we started a brand new series on STYLE Canada#BeautyFind Friday, otherwise known as your new #BFF. Every Friday, STYLE editor Anastasia Barbuzzi will present you with a #BeautyFind to help you enjoy a weekend of self-love and care like no other. She’s all over the green beauty scene and on #BeautyFind Fridays, she’ll be giving you the inside scoop on products and brands that are changing the space, and one’s you’ve just gotta try. Full permission to begin daydreaming about your next *add to cart* item.

If you’re predisposed to dark, puffy, and wrinkly under eyes (they’re genetic! Thanks dad!) or spend your evenings working way too late and your days trying to find a product that will reverse the affects of sleep deprivation without blowing your budget (we’ve all been there), then today’s #BeautyFind is for you. We’re talking Consonant Skincare‘s miracle-working Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream, and trust me when I say that there’s no going back from here.

First impressions:
Consonant’s overall aesthetic is clean and clinically inspired. From the outside, their Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream doesn’t scream ‘pretty’ or ‘luxury product’. In fact, it does the opposite and then surprises you in the best way.

Talkin’ specifics: Though the Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream doesn’t look like much, the formula inside the bottle is what matters. As winner of Best Canadian Beauty Product from Chatelaine Magazine, it features zinc oxide (an anti-inflammatory ingredient that firms, illuminates, and reflects light to rid dark circles), and HydrExtreme – Consonant’s cult-favourite hydrating and plumping glow serum. In addition to protecting and moisturizing vitamins like B3 and E, the Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream is also jam-packed with cassia angustifolia seed polysaccharide (a.k.a: Senna) – a water-binding sugar that holds moisture within the skin. This hydration superstar comes from a plant native to India that is high in polysaccharides and similar in structure to hyaluronic acid. The best part? It holds 1000 times its weight in water, reviving under eyes from intense winter dryness.

The experience: I’m always skeptical of a product label that reads ‘pure unscented’, because most of the time, there’s a leftover scent that’s been disguised. Know what I mean? If you don’t, take Consonant’s Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream as a good example of a purely unscented product. One pump out of the bottle and a couple circles around your eyes later, and still, no perfume comes from the product. The texture of the Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream is richer between the fingers than it is on the skin, which is a major plus. Despite some of the fatty oils the formula contains like olive and avocado, the cream doesn’t feel heavy or appear oily once its tapped in. And we love a non-greasy, light-as-a-bird under eye! It’s gently cooling and moves across sensitive under eye skin like butter. The last thing you want to do is irritate the area by trying to spread a product with zero glide.

The verdict: Minutes after trying this product for the first time, I saw an immediate improvement in the colour and firmness of my under eyes. No joke. Being on the dryer-side, I’m convinced that the Senna in this product worked wonders to rehydrate and colour correct my skin in combination with the light-reflecting zinc oxide. When I mentioned how impressed I was with the results to Consonant’s Science and Wellness Manager, Erika Shwass, she confirmed that my consistent morning and night use was the key to success. In my personal experience, finding an eye cream that actually does something means trying a lot of ineffective, high-priced products. Consonant’s Ultra Firming Organic Eye Cream is my new go-to, and for only $39 (CAD), I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Available at Consonant Skincare stores and online, $39 (CAD).
