Pink Shirt Day: Stand Up To Bullying in Style

On February 22nd, Canadians from coast to coast will wear pink to show their support against bullying. The annual Pink Shirt Day event was launched after two Nova Scotian teens decided to wear pink in support of a fellow student who had been bullied for wearing pink. They rallied their high school to wear pink as well, and before long the message had spread right across Canada, with everyone from children to adults wearing pink to send a powerful message against bullying.

This year, Pink Shirt Day is spreading the message of Make Nice, and thousands of Canadians are expected to don pink shirts in support. For the ninth year, London Drugs is helping to build awareness of this powerful campaign by being the exclusive retailer of the official Pink Shirt Day t-shirts. Net proceeds of the shirts support CKNW Orphans’ Fund and are distributed to various organizations across British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. The programs supported help to teach children empathy, compassion and kindness as well as help to build their self-esteem.

To help spread awareness for this important initiative, I encourage all of you fashion mavens to get creative and style your Pink Shirt Day t-shirt in support of anti-bullying and wear it on February 22nd! Just pick up a tee from London Drugs to get started – you can even accessorize with their new Pink Shirt Day bracelets, which also have all funds being donated to the CKNW Orphans’ Fund.

Over the last nine years, thanks to the support of London Drugs staff and customers, the retailer was able to raise more than 1 million dollars for Boys and Girls Clubs and anti-bullying programs across Western Canada. Last year alone, London Drugs customers purchased 18,600 Pink Shirt Day t-shirts in support of the campaign.

Here are some tips for rocking your official Pink Shirt Day t-shirt in style:

Accessorize!

Add some dazzle to your t-shirt with some sparkly accessories. A statement necklace that fits the crew neck neckline of the shirt (ie. a necklace that is not too long) would be a good choice. It’s amazing how one piece can really dress up the whole outfit!

Blazer-It-Up

An easy way to dress up a t-shirt is to layer a chic blazer over top. Wear with jeans for a casual yet work friendly vibe.

Embellished Collars

Detachable collars are easy to find these days, and come in all kinds of designs, from pearl and rhinestone embellishments to peter pan and bow tie styles. They can transform your t-shirt’s look in seconds!

The Half Tuck

Instead of completely tucking your t-shirts into your pants, try tucking on the very front of your shirt in, right at the front button on your pants. Let the rest of the shirt fall on the outside, around your sides and your back. It gives off a chic but casual feel to your outfit.

Pink Beauty

Why not add a pop of pink to your beauty look too? For a themed winged liner, NYX Cosmetics’ Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Petal is a pretty choice, and for the lips, try KissPro’s Moisture Tattoo Lip Stain in Pink Punk!

Don’t forget to share your styled Pink Shirt Day outfit on social media to help spread the word, using the hashtags #pinkshirtday and #PSD2017!
