#SummerFridays at The June Motel: The One with Charm (and Wine)

Welcome to the fourth review of #SummerFridays – a stay home travel series that will show you the best and the brightest that our province has to offer.

The June Motel, located in the town of Picton, Ontario, is in the heart of the one and only Prince Edward County – home to over 20 wineries and a beautiful provincial park. The infamous motel is famous for its retro style and Instagram worthy photo opps, inside and outside.

The Room

From the moment I walked in, the vibes were immaculate. The sliding door was open to let the fresh air in and the retro bedside radio was blasting the local top 40 station. The good vibes did not stop there, though.

The Classic room was made complete with a queen sized bed with a funky wallpaper, a wine bar with a fridge and REAL glasses. Even the corner of the room was decorated with hanging plants and a rattan indoor chair.

Our view from the second level looked over the lake and the gorgeous homes that surrounded the motel. Sitting on the balcony drinking some local wine was the perfect way to cap off the evening.

The Amenities

Not only is the room itself great, the atmosphere is completed by the many amenities they offer – the icing on the cake. In the room, they have full bottles of their luxe toiletries for the guest to use which is great for both sustainability and also allows you to actually get a good hair wash instead of scraping the bottom of those tiny bottles.

If you love the products as much as we did, they are all available for purchase in their adorable gift shop in the lobby which features not only the products but also some signature decor from the room, their house wine made at a local winery, and even souvenir keepsakes.

As if that’s not charming enough, every night (weather dependent) they have a fire in the main patio area where guests can gather to order a snack and/or beverage to enjoy fireside. With lights strung above and music in the background, the vibes could not be better.

Pandemic Protocols

Perhaps the most unique pandemic protocol they offer is the self check in. When your room is ready, they send a text to the phone number on file for the room with a code to the lockbox outside the room that holds the key in it. When you check out, you simply leave the key in the room or in the lockbox and head out – easy as that!

Of course, masks are required in the lobby, but can be removed once you sit down to eat or drink on the patio. Like many locations, throughout the pandemic they will not be freshening up the room during the stay, so they ask you keep things tidy and if you need any extra towels or glasses, you can text the front desk (same goes for ordering food or drinks!)

TIP: Because of the self check in protocols, there isn’t an option for early check in or late checkout unless specified before checking in.

Final Thoughts

The location is great – very close to the main town of Picton and just 20 minutes to the main Wine Trail. There are beautiful wineries and tour companies throughout that will drive you between them so you don’t have to count your sips!

The founders of The June also recently opened another location in Sauble Beach which is set to be featured in the upcoming Netflix show, “Motel Makeover.”

Overall, the motel is perfect for a chill weekend in an up-and-coming area of the province. There are so many options and The June serves as a perfect landing place for the night, with the perfect charm (and perfect backdrop for your next IG post)!

Their rooms fill up quickly for the summer so I am already booking to check out their Sauble Beach location next summer!

Thanks for reading our fourth edition of #SummerFridays – see you in a few weeks for a review of another great Ontario destination!
